Top 5 Delicious Dessert Items in Kerala
A dessert is typically the sweet course that concludes a meal in the culture of many countries, particularity Western culture. The course usually consists of sweet foods but may include other items. The word "dessert" originated from the French word desservir "to clear the table" and the negative of the Latin word servire.
There are a wide variety of desserts including cakes, cookies, biscuits, gelatins, pastries, ice creams, pies, puddings, and candies. Fruit is also commonly found in dessert courses because of its natural sweetness. Many different cultures have their own variations of similar desserts around the world. Some of the top desserts in Kerala are:
1. FROZEN DESSERTS
Ice cream is a sweetened frozen food. It is usually made from dairy products, such as milk and cream, and often combined with fruits or other ingredients and flavours. It is typically sweetened with sugar or sugar substitutes. Typically, flavourings and colourings are added in addition to stabilizers. Nothing beats the heat on a blazing summer's day like a cooling ice cream. Ice cream consists of cream slowly stirred in a churn to freeze it to a creamy consistency. Gelato uses a milk base instead of cream and has less air mixed into it than ice cream. Frozen custard uses a cooked base of egg yolks. Frozen yoghurt uses yoghurt rather than the heavier cream base of ice cream, which also makes it a lower calorie treat.
2. CAKES
A cake is a form of sweet dessert that is typically baked. In its oldest forms, cakes were modifications of bread, but cakes now cover a wide range of preparations that can be simple or elaborate, and that share features with other desserts such as pastries, meringues, custards, and pies. Cakes are not just for birthday parties. Examples of cakes include angel food cake made with egg whites, sponge cake, flourless cakes like the sachertorte, German chocolate cake, pavlova cake made with a meringue base, pound cake and fruitcake. Petits fours, cupcakes and snack cakes are single-serve sizes of larger cakes.
3. CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES
A chocolate truffle is a type of chocolate confectionery, traditionally made with a chocolate ganache centre coated in chocolate, cocoa powder or chopped toasted nuts (typically hazelnuts, almonds, or coconut), usually in a spherical, conical, or curved shape. Chocolate Truffles are fancy little chocolate balls often coated with powdered sugar, nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips and so on. If you have a chocolate drink powder like Nesquik, you can make these lovely truffles at home. You can prepare these truffles as a treat for your kids or for parties.
4. PAYASAM
Payasam is a sweet South Indian dish prepared with milk or coconut milk. The main ingredient used can be any of the following – Rice, Wheat, Lentils (Dal), Vermicelli, Ada (flat pieces made using rice) etc. Payasam is flavoured with nuts and raisins. Semiya payasam, Palada payasam, Aval payasam, Ada pradhaman, etc are the different varieties of payasam.
5. PUDDINGS
Pudding is a type of food that can be either a dessert or a savory dish. The modern usage of the word pudding to denote primarily desserts has evolved over time from the almost exclusive use of the term to describe savory dishes, specifically those created using a process similar to sausages where meat and other ingredients in a mostly liquid form are encased and then steamed or boiled to set the contents.
